One search on the psychology of color will make your head spin. When branding, thinking about color in terms of ‘fit’ is the right approach.
CASE STUDY: VACAVILLE CONVALESCENT HOSPITAL
OLD, NOT STODGY
The Vacaville Convalescent Hospital approached FUEL with a refreshing vision on the golden years. What if housing for our aging parents and grandparents didn’t depend on looking and feeling like a hospital? Instead, what if we treated them as the unique people they are, with a lifetime of experience, who didn’t want to go quietly into the night?
Well they had us at depends. We worked with the staff to create a series of signs that acknowledged where the patients were at in life, and injected a little appropriate humor and simple humanity. The result, an old folks home that actually feels like a home.
The monument and directional signs are a nod to vintage design of the 50’s and 60’s, a time that we can all agree was a bit more kitch and didn’t take itself so seriously. It just shows that good design needs a strong vision and the willingness to carry it through.
